THE RAN WRITERS ASSOCIATION
The RAN Writers Reunion Committee was formed in 1998 to arrange the first Writers reunion in 2002. This reunion was a great success (according to all reports) and the committee acting on suggestions from other Writers decided that we should continue to function as an Association after the reunion.
The Association formally incorporated in January 2005 and from March 2005 is accepting applications for membership. For membership details see Membership Page
The principal objectives of the Royal Australian Navy Writer's Association are to:
Provide a platform for the interests of serving and veterans members of the RAN Writer Branch;
Organise venue for members to enjoy camaraderie and fellowship
Provide advice on seeking welfare, advocacy and representation for all members.
Provide opportunities for members to participate in the activities provided by the Association.
Participate in commemoration and other remembrance services conducted on recognised days and those instituted by the Association
Promote reunions and other social events for the benefit of all members

Approved Committee Decisions. The following items extracted from the AGM or Executive minutes are detailed below for members information.

20/11/2008 Membership fees increased to $12 per year or $110 life. Cover increased costs.
20/11/2008 With the advent of the new residential courses to commence in 2009 AB to LS, and LS to PO. Two perpetual trophies have bee purchased for engraving the name of the most successful student. In addition the following will be presented on behalf of the Association:
Intermediate Writers Course most successful student : Pen and Writers Tie (Tie pin and cuff links if female) Advanced Writers Course most successful student : Pen and Writers Tie (Tie pin and cuff links if female) Intermediate Dux of the year: Time clock Advanced Dux of the year: Sword desk set
20/11/2008 At official writer functions, i.e. luncheons/dinners the association will contributes $5 per member attending the function towards refreshments. It is emphasised that any writer (retired or serving) attending a function, must be a member of the RAN Writers Association to receive this benefit. An attendance list with members signature/membership number will be required for this payment.
05/09/2008 Car stickers - Will now be provided to members free to those that attend a luncheon/dinner held by the Association.
27/3/2008 Exit Strategy: The committee agreed that should it come to a point where the Association is no longer viable, i.e. due to lack of interest, lack of membership due to change in the RAN Writer category, or lack of volunteers to run the Association then the unexpended funds would be allocated as follows: 80% to final reunion and 20% to the Relief Trust Find. This determination is subject to review every 3 years. (The exit strategy is a requirement of the constitution.)
27/3/2008 Honorary Life Membership. A paper was presented to the committee on life membership. The paper was accepted and will be presented to the AGM later this year for approval.
23/1/2008 Credit Card Introduction. Approved to use PayMate to sell items via Master Card / Visa via the internet. The Treasurer could process orders via the internet for members.

Due to the increased usage of the web site by members the bandwidth of the site needed to be increased from the present AU Standard 100 Mb web space, 2000 Mb of transfer cost $12.00 per month, to AU Extended 300 Mb web space, 6000 Mb of transfer cost $17.50 per month. Approved by the Executive.
29/4/2006 Agreed that membership would be set at $10.00 per annum or $100.00 (life membership).
29/4/2006 Approved to pay $220.00 to protect our domain name RANWRITERS.COM until 21 November 2014.
9/12/2005 The Executive Committee approved the expenditure of up to $50 on the purchase of a wreath for the families of deceased financial members.
9/12/2005 Approved the purchase of a Perpetual Trophy to be held at HMAS Cerberus. The most successful student on each Initial Writer Course would have his name engraved on it. Each successful student would be presented with a pen engraved appropriately and a book prize.
